Reminds me so much of both Abdullah Ibrahim, the Cape Town jazz pianist (recently passed!) and also the diminutive Adam Small, the 'street poet' who took street 'jive' in the Cape Town ghetto, and published it long before 1994. Your knowledge of Yiddish should help you decode:
Fabulous. One of your best. I didn't know any of this about Cab. I did fall asleep as a kid, listening to Blood on the Tracks. My dad was a HUGE Dylan fan. Jazz-wise, I heard a lot of Bill Evans and Miles Davis. Pretty standard.
For me Jive and the wild parties take me back to my Public School days. But Dylan was my hero too, he taught me something my family could not. True values, not indoctrination, but freedom and rhe burden that brings. Thanks for sharing 👍.
"He takes 'hallelujah!' and makes it 'Hi de ho!'" My smiling toddler self eating jive sausage and watching Sesame Street salutes him, and you, for the delicious tribute. Hi de ho.
Tasty T- Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Thanks MP. it's deep and blue
I love this a lot. If you wrote the screenplay of his life, and the film was made, I’d be happily sitting in the theater for it.
Well AK, you may have to settle for some other movie, though I'd like to see that one too,
Sure thing.
